I was in Boston and New England last October - didn't see that many pentaxes though
I missed the fall by about two weeks, although in November I saw some lovely colours in Virginia...
For food - clam chowder is definitely recommended washed down with Sam Adams Boston Lager. Portsmouth NH has a fabulous brewery as does Pittsfield in Maine..,..
I spent a week in the car travelling through the states and it wasn't enough - I am determined to again when time allows.
As for flights - those originating from Schiphol are much cheaper and this also includes BA. I travel World Traveller Plus, which gives extra legroom....
Late October this year I will go to Washington DC and historic Jamestown - to hopefully catch some nice colours....

Gwyn, that Irish place in Mattapoisett was once the Mattapoisett Inn (a name now taken by a B&B a few houses down) and is/was the oldest seaside inn in America.
Margaret's in Fairhaven is a bit harder to find, but can be a jewel-at least at my last visit.
Another good place to visit for those coming over is Newport, Rhode Island. Lots of fun.

I spend a lot of time near Fairhaven! Some decent restaurants in the area-bad ones, too.
Funny hearing from a Manitoba-ite that New England is huge.
I liked Fairhaven and area a lot. My OH was working in Marion. We had a great meal at an Irish restaurant in Mattapoisett. I'll let you know next time we go - you can recommend some restaurants for us
The fall colours are on my want to see list, but having had two dreams come true this year (a Safari in Tanzania, and whale watching) the colours will have to wait .....
