Nature & Industry in perfect harmony

I had a lovely day last Sunday, just me and my cameras on a day out, which is a real rarity, I haven't had this opportunity for 18 months. I went to two locations; Old Moor RSPB Reserve, followed by a walk down a stretch of the sublime Chesterfield Canal, close to where I live. These shots are from the Chesterfield Canal, all taken with either the K-3 or K-5iis and exclusively with telephoto lenses (DA WR 100 Macro, DA L 55-300 and DA*300). I've tried to include some different styles, notes are added where appropriate. Hope you like.

1. Abstract Flow - This is a run-off channel for the canal, shot with 2 exposures, the first very slow to get blur on the water surface, the second faster to freeze the motion. The second image was merged with the first and areas of the sharp image selectively removed to reveal a mixture of detail and blur.

Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed. BTW, if anyone has never been to this stretch of the Chesterfield Canal, I would highly recommend it. Access is easy, from various places along the route (Thorpe Salvin, Turnerwood, Shireoaks), it's in NE Derbyshire / N Nottinghamshire close to the M1. There is a wealth of photographic opportunites, especially if you take a telephoto lens of some description. This location lends itself to telephoto, if I dare to be controversial it's not for wide-angle landscapes.

No 4 is particularly good.

Very nice series. I particularly like the colour rendering, and appreciate the thoughtful compositions.
I would like to walk around there with a 28mm (albeit on APS-C).

Lovely work which just reminds me I must get out more with my camera....lol

Very nice set, especially of our local canal and the delightful wagtail. I'm lucky enough to take my camera out most days. Such sets are much better use of this forum than rattling about kit. Well done.

The flower is beautiful, yes, and the canal ones show us the lush green and tranquility of the location ... Looks all most relaxing!

I'm glad you're back into action again David... Just as well we benefit from that great Pentax feature, Cobweb Resistance ... My K7 also has to rely on that now frequently on and off.

I particularly like the ones with patches of sunlight contrasting with shadows. Not always easy to make canal shots as attractive as these!
