The system worked great with both Windows (samba) and NFS networking, but it had one flaw.
If the server was not shut down properly, about 30% of the time it would loose the partition table on at least one hard drive. I could never identify why this happened, and although other users reported not having the problem it occured on all 4 machines with which I used the software (different CPUs, motherboards and chipsets).
I've overcome the not powering off after shutdown issue by upgrading the BIOS to the latest version available. Sadly the machine will still not boot from a flash drive even though it has the "Boot from other devices" option in the BIOS but it's not possible to select any USB device to boot from.
I'm not too bothered at the moment because I'm just using an old Slot1 Pentium 3 600MHz machine (very old) to experiment. It's not a machine I would entrust any important data with. I'd like to get the RAID issue sorted though.
