Here we go,
How many pro photographers who have regularly used Pentax cameras can you name?
I've had a wee think and can name 3 certainties.
David Bailey,
Terence Donovan
Sam Haskins.
Anyone for anymore?

Tricky question really. There are three or more members of the forum that are pro & use Pentax and I know Wayne Henry shoots with a 645D but Sam Haskins also shot with blads as seen here. link

Certainly in years gone by there were a lot of people earning a living using Pentax kit.

I am assuming that you mean famous Pro photographers?

There are lots of Pentax pro photographers, but in the end it doesn't matter what camera they used at any particular time. Whatever it was, they knew what they were doing and they were great photographers.

I remember my John Hedgecoe book of colour photography, where 75% of the images were shot with Pentax gear.

I don't think many high ranking pros use Pentax DSLRs (for day to day work anyway, they may still own Pentax kit) although I think Pentax medium format is popular.

Indeed John.

Looking at the market for used Pentax equipment which is huge, there will be many of those people who shoot professionally.

Are "un-coloured in" B&W photographers allowed

If so Sebastião Salgado is probably the greatest living B&W photographer. I think he started with a Spotmatic and then MX..... then Leica and onto a Pentax 645 and lately 645D

This was his first attempt at landscapes and animals link

He had to carry a solar panel charger with him to charge the 645D batteries up on that trip.

His homepage:

You have to look under Essays for the photographs i.e.
http://www.amazonasimages.com/grands-travaux

Sorry again about the B&W and his liking for the Tri-X look... they don't look that good on a computer, much better as 6ft high prints

Lucie Debelkova: She used to use a Pentax K20D, but has now
moved over to Canon FF, but will she come back to a 645D.
She might even be a (past) member on here

Well worth a look at her flickr and 500px sites

Lilly of course. I don't know if she still uses Pentax though.

Ben Kanerek is still a member here but seems to have given up posting here. Several other members are professionals too of course.

Joe McNally has used Pentax, though again I don't know if he still does.

I agree wholeheartedly with what John Riley has said. It doesn't matter what camera was used it's the end result that counts.
I was just thinking out aloud.
Thinking back to when I was at Uni we nearly all had Pentax cameras or aspired to Pentax ownership.
Nowadays it all seems to be Canikon.

I adore the pics of Nick Brandt, and assumed he must use one of the 'mainstream' FF digital cameras but actually he uses a Pentax 67ii:

and I always enjoy looking through Chris Willson's blog and galleries - he posts on here occasionally too. He used to use a Pentax 67 but now uses a 645D:

Both pretty inspirational IMO

Surely skills are more important than equipment though??? Although most of my favourite photographers shoot Leica or Hassleblad...

Isn't david bailey more likely to be linked with Olympus Trip than Pentax??
