First off, I think it's a beautiful image. Now, let's see - taken from above the clouds? ICM? I can't figure out what the darker spots are, the biggest one looks like the head of a cartoon Nessie making faces at me.

It's a macro from the look of the restricted DoF. A wet J cloth or similar?
