Read this and it becomes painfully apparent that us Pentax users are so blinded by excitement and brand loyalty that we overlook the fact that the K10D is a rubbish product.
Luckily for us, there are several Canon and Nikon users who've spent hours evaluating this "marvel" to make us realise the error of our ways. The list of problems is endless, the quality is poor, even the lettering of the name is incorrect.
I highly think it's time we evaluated some Canon and Nikon gear and shared our findings. After all, the least we can do is return the favour, or are we not as insecure about our choice of product?
I'm getting mine tomorrow and I'm soooooooo looking forward to it.

Michael - that link was a great tongue-in-cheek article
You'll have fun with the K10D, that's for sure

I have just invented a new test for cameras, it is applicable only to Kanikon, because as we well know they are so well made. It's is a test of durability and robustness - the equipment has to stand being run over by a squadron of Challenger tanks. Funnily enough all test examples failed this test so their overal score was D----, and therefore they will be out of business by a week next wednesday.

Tim, what you fail to realise is that if the lovely if rather misguided people out there who shoot Kanikons were to all see the light tomorrow, the rest of us wouldn't be able to get hold of the good stuff for MONTHS. Look how long it took to get K10Ds widely available WITHOUT the Kanikon crowd getting in the way.
I wonder how long it will be before Sigma and friends start putting HSM motors into Pentax mount lenses. I guess since Sigma tend to reverse engineer everything they can't do much until Pentax manage to get the new DA* lenses out the door.

As an extension to the reply I posted yesterday, I'm rather pleased we all use rubbish photo gear to take brilliant photos instead of the expensive Kanikon gear. It makes it more readily available and cheaper too!!!

I took mine out for it's first real test this afternoon. I am in love.
I don't know if its the SR, the focusing system, something to do with the new sensor or a combination of all of the above but this camera just LOVES my Jappanese built Zeiss 75-300. I've always thought this lens was alright but not special, but on the K10D it's tack sharp even wide open. I can't wait to try my 80-320.
Sv mode is a dream come true, program shift on the back and ISO on the front and I have all the control I could want at the tips of my fingers. For those more difficult situations I have HP mode set to program shift on the back wheel and EV compensation on the front. The whole camera is just genius! I can't get over how much you can customise the controls to your personal way of working.
my only desire so far is to be able to have the camera use the same ISO in all modes (except TAv of course). Anyone know if that's possible? Edit: Ahhh I see, it DOES do that except for Sv and TAv. I don't suppose theres any way of having Sv change the main ISO setting.

Well, well, well...
I received my K10D after going to the post office and demanding it without a delivery notification because I couldn't wait.
After sitting with it for a couple of hours only (I had read the manual twice already before receiving it), I have come to the conclusion that it does not function at all like a Pentax according to the much eh-steamed Kanikoners out there.
It focuses properly, takes great shots, and so on. Therefore, it must be a rebadged C_n_n or N_k_n. And the harder I tried to make it function like the K10D should (in the opinion of the highly eh-steamed Kanikoners), the worse it performed.
In summary, all I can say is this and this , and when I wake up tomorrow morning, I'll probably see this in the mirror.

I read through this thread yesterday and not just the initial post that's linked. A couple of things came to mind as I was reading down the VERY long thread...http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1036&message=21558370

1./ Thank God for this forum - they do seem to have a tendancy to get themselves in a twist about anything. Thank you guys for keeping everything sane!
2./ Before the guarantee runs out on my K10D runs out do I need to subject it to a series of tests to find out if it is one of the bad batch that they all seem to be on about on dpreview?
3./ How real are some of the faults they are describing? I for one certainly haven't found anything in 'normal' use to indicate that mine is a lemon - no back or front focus issues, no horrible banding etc etc...
I think that I've tried mine out with just about every lens in my collection, which includes FA's, F's, FA Ltd's, A's, M's and K series, plus my Sigma EX's and even an old Sigma A series fish-eye - in fact the only thing that I haven't tried it with is a lens that was actually designed to operate on the camera as I don't own any yet. Do you know what...? I don't seem to have had an issue with a single one of them.
Everything looks exactly as I'd hope it would - HELP...
Everything operates exactly as I'd expect - HELP...
I LOVE MY K10D....................... HELP

I have seldom come across a situation where a product has not just lived up to the hype, but exceeded it.
The K10D is a magnificent machine in every way. The picture quality I am getting from it blows away anything I have seen from any 35mm camera. With a good lens - 77mm in particular - you'd think the pictures came from a Hasselblad.

And that's the real reason for the negative feedback from the kanikon 'bots - they are seriously worried!

I'm off to the Moon to get me a Hasselblad...
But on second thought, I'll use my K10D instead.

During last nights foray shooting the moon I tried the digital preview for the first time, an absolute god send when working in the dark. Also the remote release with 3sec mirror up from the rear is brilliat too.
