My first K-r effort ...

I have just managed to upload my first K-r effort of a photo' of the moon, taken about half an hour ago. Yes, I know two or three have done it before me!

It was taken handheld on manual with f8,ISO 200 and 1/500th of a second, I think! I have to admit that I didn't work all that out by myself but read up somewhere about what to do. I think that the fnumber should have been f11 but I couldn't get it to change from the f8.

Aa it was freezing cold I just took it anyway. I don't know how to get the picture into the forum and I don't want to get involved with 'Flickr' anyway. So could some of you 'boffins' take a 'dekko' in the gallery and tell me that it is a work of art, please?

PS. The picture has only been cropped, nothing else.

It certainly looks like the moon and the focus looks okay, although I also think it is a little too dark. You could rectify this with some post processing... and that would probably yield a decent shot I reckon The moon is a strange thing to photograph because whilst it is night-time the moon is actually very bright. I find I get decent results by setting the camera to spot-metering, and then fixing the exposure parameters (shutter speed, ISO and f-stop number) by metering off of a bright part of the moon and locking that exposure, and then seeing how that looks on the back screen of the camera after taking a picture and adjusting with the +/- ev adjustment function for another shot as necessary. The f-stop and/or ISO can be adjusted to give a faster shutter speed if shooting hand-held (smaller number = bigger aperture = faster shutter speed). Definitely worth persisting with I think.

matwhittington, your comments are appreciated also. In mitigation for my 'dark moon', I should add that the moon was behind a rather large see through type cloud, if you see what I am trying to say. It has been like that all evening here, neither fully cloudy nor clear.

Well, it's definitely miles better than my first moon shot, that I can tell you!

Further to my moon effort. I have uploaded into 'my' and 'the' gallery two more efforts. The moon is just a 'mess' about but the pre dawn picture is a serious attempt at a photograph. It was taken very early this morning. The caption explains the rest.

To save my wasting forum space if someone could give me very simple to understand instructions, for uploading into the forum, it would be most appreciated. I will try to follow them.

Please forgive me all this '***ing' about. this is my first effort at doing this.

The picture above is as in my gallery. It was taken a little before dawn, this morning. It is my first deliberate attempt to take a proper photograph using my new K-r.

All I have done to it is to crop it and saturate the colour a little. I can only ask you to accept my word that the colours of the sky were not too far away from these colours anyway.

I was attempting to create the colours of the spectrum from black through the range and back to black again. It was taken handheld. I would muchly appreciate comments from anyone who feels the need. Kind regards.

I suspect your monitor is turned up way too bright (a very common problem!). On a 'correct' monitor your images are far too dark
They look about 1.5 to 2Ev (1.5 to 2-stops) too dark.

If you are not sure of your monitor, then make good use of the Histogram in editing. Your images have much more promise when correctly exposed.

I understand what you are saying and have handwritten your post down in my notebook. I've had a look at ev stops but as yet I am still coming to terms with a full blown dslr. I will however, get there in the end. there seems to be so much to do at the same time before you can take a photograph.
