My Bigma - RIP :-(

There was a private Red Arrows display this afternoon (Birthday party) for the chap that broke the steam speed record in America a few weeks ago and he happens to live just a few miles from me so took a trip down armed with my trusty Bigma. I have been having a few problems with it lately, the focus seems to go at the long end after prolonged heavy use .. no matter what I did it just would not lock on but once cooled down it seemed fine.

Anyway, took it out of the case, walked to a open spot to watch the display .. fired a test shot .. and nothing. The lens refuses to focus, I can hear it struggling to move the insides but it just seems like there is not enough power in the AF to get it through the range.

Hi Mike, check the manual focus ring that it is not stuck between auto and manual this happened to me when I was in Fuengirola Zoo, moved it back and foreword a few times take the lens off and put it back on again and all was OK, also give all the contacts lens and camera a clean, other than that I have no other suggestions.

Allready checked the focus ring, lens lock and contacts with no joy. Looks like its off to Sigma for a service, lucky it was cheap when I bought it used. No hurry as the sun is fading in the UK now (did I say now?) and its really only a good light lens.

Did you get some sun? I thought this was a thing of the past in the UK

I see from the forcast things arent going to be much better in Spain next week (well the Alicante region which is where I should be anyway).

Just glad I took my DA* 60-250mm.

Well Mike it has been thunder and lightning all day but over Malaga, we are desperate for rain, we had a few spits but it missed us again, hopefully it will rain sometime this week as my well needs filling up,
