Muntjac

The Muntjac seems to make a regular late morning appearance in my garden.

This morning I managed to get a couple more pictures ...

K20D & DA*300 hand held though a double glazed window at about 12 metres and cropped to remove unwanted distraction in the background.

K20D DA*300 & X2-S converter hand held and manual focus through a double glazed window at about 15 metres. Unfortunately I did not have time to change the focal length setting from 50mm to 600mm and had SR on but it seems to have come out fine, although the background is not wonderful!

Both images were reduced to 1024 wide high quality JPGs in Photoshop. The images were taken from the camera JPGs which were originally 10MP *** quality (3872 x 2592).

I have never heard of this animal??? Really good pics!
It looks pretty cool...would be great to get some without the annoyance of the window...

It's part of the Deer family.

Muntjac were introduced into England from China in the early 20th century. They were originally taken to Woburn Park but soon escaped. They are a bit of a pest but great to eat.

This one is just a few miles down the Uxbridge Road from you.

Nice one Polchraine...they don't stay still for long.

As you and some others know, there are five other wild deer in Uk...Red, Roe, Sika, Fallow, and Chinese Water.

Apart from Welsh Lamb...my favourite red meat.

Saw a red doe taken out about 10 days ago - single shot from about 50m.

May have some of the meat when I get back up to Scotland in a few weeks - provided they have not eaten it all.

I'm jealous....not allowed to shoot Deer yet, although got rights to a farm near Margam Park where fallow regularly escape into the wild.

This was an accident victim ... front leg "smashed" but had run off. A friend got a call within minutes of it happening and was there within another 5.

The garden one has not appeared today! She seems to arrive most days at about 11:00 ish.
