Mount St Helens

A couple more from the recent hols.
We were at Mount St Helens on the 29th anniversary of her blowing her top. The photos are taken from Johnston Ridge, named after the volcanologist
David Johnston, who was camped out on this ridge observing the volcano when it blew. His final words were “Vancouver, Vancouver, this is it.” He was never found.
Johnston Ridge had re-opened after the winter snows just the day before.
It is a truly impressive sight, which it is hard to capture with a camera. Even now 29 years on, and with nature (and the foresters) taking back some of the area destroyed, the scenes of destruction are incredible.

Very nice Gwyn, you've donw well to make a great exposure in what seem like difficult conditions.

#2 for me, although the foreground is a little dark I love the sense of scale that the wonderful sky brings to the shot.

Those look stunning, the black and white mountain has a real 3D effect and the exposure looks very good... simply splendid
