You guys scared the sh** out of me. I thought I had forgotten, but where I am, I still have a couple of months to think about that. It means I can still enjoy life.

I was going to say Stefan you are really confused .
I'm sure your mother would have been delighted with an extra bunch of flowers though .

I shall be away from my sons and grandsons for Mothers Day so they get out of it again this year. Not that they remember even when I am home .

I have always thought that Mothers' Day is a totally artificial event dreamt up by the flower and card industries.

It is particularly irrelevant and often a sad day for everyone who no longer has a mother.

The intention is harmless enough - a day set aside for Mum to put her feet up and relax. Today I'm cooking Sunday lunch for both Mums - it's in preparation as we speak.

It's always sad to lose a Mum and I wouldn't want to think that the day makes the loss more acute for some. It may well be so though and we can also perhaps find a thought to consider those who are so affected?

As regards the flower and card industries I'm not sure when it all escalated, but it probably started off innocently enough.

Best regards, John

Originally it was the day boys and girls in service were able to go home to see their mothers. Often they wouldn't see them at all otherwise. It is in Great Britain at least officially Mothering Sunday.
I lost my mother quite young, but it didn't make Mothers day a painful day for me, at least no more painful than other days. her birthday was a far worse day to face. It still is, year and years later.
if it makes people stop and think of the mothers, especially in today's world where people have so little time for each other, then it can only be a good thing.
All the other days which have since been invented are purely commercial and I have no time for them. Here we celebrate Mothers day in May, like they do n America. That really is a day invented by the card companies, but lacking a Mothering Sunday I'll happily accept brunch from my boys, when they remember.

Martin I hope your wife enjoys her flowers, and yo enjoy photographing them.
John, I hope every one enjoys their Sunday lunch!

Coincidentally we are going to dinner with one son today, but that is to meet his new son in person, rather than seeing him in an incubator.

Thanks Martin.

I thought a bit more about Mothering Sunday and looked it up - it is the fourth Sunday in lent, and is actually to celebrate the Virgin and the Mother Church. people would return to the home church, and their mothers, to celebrate it - and were said to have gone a-mothering. Hence Mothering Sunday.

It's also nine months before Christmas. Not sure if that is significant or not

Mothers Day in parts of Europe and the US dates from only 1912, and is the second Sunday in may. other countries have similar festivals on different dates..

Have a nice day, today Gwyn.
You of course take your camera with you or not?

Yes dates are a disaster with me, but maybe today was a better day then in May. It would atleast have a history behind it.

The good thing is we all know that they have stolen our Sinterklaas for Santa Claus
