People don't look as different as I thought they would. Having said that I think #5 & #6 are incredible.

I rather like No.5 - have you tried any IR portraits yet?
Best regards, John

I like them all; perhaps 3 & 6 impress me most for the perfect exposure and dynamic range. How do you go about setting exposure? You state that it is manual. Do you judge by an instant review image, or do you call up a histogram etc in a playback mode? I have no idea what the facilities are in a (modified) GX1L.

Skin generally looks much smoother in IR, removing surface blemishes etc.People don't look as different as I thought they would. Having said that I think #5 & #6 are incredible.
One of the other Forums I browse has an excellent comparison of Visible IR & UV portraits
My own experiment in IR portraits is less successful see here in my PU portfolio.

Regarding exposure, for the kit 18-55 I tend to use Av mode with between +1 and +2 EV for open space shots (lots of light) or -1 or -2 EV for ones in darker areas such as the woods (less visible light but lots of IR scattered from folaige).
The Sigma tends to be even more variable, so for that lens it is easier on a day like today to simply set 1/180th at f/8 and check the histogram occasionally. These are done in raw so there is still quite a bit of correction available in Bibble.
Then ones I like the look of are exported to Photoshop where I use Topaz Adjust to intensify the false colour and the details, with some adaptive exposure depending on the original contrast. Then that version is the one converted to mono, using the amount of red channel to vary the look of the clouds - you'll see an example of a false colour one in the Winnall Moors thread from a couple of days ago.

1-4 are okay (they don't look like IR at all just BW), 6 is good, and 5 is brilliant. Love it.

First the old building - Netley Abbey. The clouds weren't looking at all promising so I concentrated on a couple of very wide views:
1.
2.
Then a couple of minutes away is the shore of Southampton Water. There were people there Rather than have them clutter up the shots I used them - very unlike me
3.
4.
Five more minutes walking got me to the military cemetery at Victoria Hospital:
5.
6.
All on the modified GX1L, Sigma 10-20 at 10mm f/8, manual exposure of 1/90th for the building ones, 1/180th for all the others. OK, the people aren't very close, but it's a start
