Terrific Ted. I love those moon shots. I think you should change your tag to Got There.

Thanks.
I may change it, but not to "Got there". I think I'll never truly arrive as there is always something else to learn

Really great shots!

I was taking a few moon shots myself last night, testing out a new lens. Will post those later so you can marvel at how blurry they are compared to yours

This is the thing.

When someone uses a telescope to get pictures as good as this, it spoils the whole "strain at the very limits of sensor / lens / focus / steady tripod / careful post-process" game...

... that we merrily toil away at with only a camera and a proper (!) lens.

I recently got my Sigma 600mm mirror lens cleaned on the inside, so I might have a go with that if there's some clear sky tonight. It's been a while since I put myself through all the "I reckon I'll be able to feel my fingers for about 5 more minutes, that's plenty of time yet" lark.

Very nice.
Heres my effort from last night with a lowly 300mm f4.5 and Pentax 1.7x TC

Hand held as usual.

If you want enough focal length for the moon, a telescope is the cheap option! My 4.5" Newtonian cost me £120, I can't think of another way to get to 1000mm f/9 for that price. Even my Dad's 8" cost something like £500, not even Bigma money for 1000mm f/5.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

What are telescopes like for 'normal' photography?

Funny thing is, I actually bought an SLR to hang onto my scope, then got interseted in (normal)photography.
As for making it easier, I'll post the other 80 images! Most of which aren't in focus, or have motion blur as the telescope was vibrating slightly due to my footsteps....
But, yes. I agree in principle, it is a slightly different beast.

Now that's a feeling I can sympathise with. The moon was so high that my scope was nearly vertical. As a result, I was on hands and knees on cold concrete craning my head under the camera.

Sorry I don't know anything about this type of photography. Is the camera connected directly to the telescope without a normal lens in between. i.e. using the telescope as the lens.
No C&C required on these, they are just snapshots to show my set up.
