Monthly Comp #2 - Generations

Second month and the subject is: Generations

Entirely how you want to interpret this is down to you - link between the three is generations - can be on any subject you like as long as the linked theme is evident.

Rules are:
3 images to be entered into the competition
Images have to be taken in July 2011 and EXIF data must be included
Images accepted from Pentax cameras or Samsung DSLR equivalents
Images to be no more than 800 pixels wide although you may want to link images that are 640 pixels max wide so they view easier.

The competition closes at 6pm on 31st July 2011

Simply didn't had the time, i'm glad i finished the photos for the book yesterday

I should finally have some time for myself this month so for me you can run it this month also.

Very disappointing to be honest. I was looking forward to seeing this - not sure if the topic was poor, I thought it could be interesting.

Might be an idea to run it for another month and see how it goes.

Sorry Mark, not much photography output from me this last month or three otherwise I would have rustled something up.

Sorry too, I am away and could not judge nor run a comp, so I therefore did not want to run the risk of entering(just in case I won:shock...but if we have another month, things should slow down once I return home...and I will find a shoot for the comp.

I think that the topic is great....I too look forward to some interesting entries.

I think it's just the normal way that a new idea runs quickly out of steam, I don't think it's any negative reflection on the idea at all. I'll try and do something for this one.

I just couldn't find a subject, nothing in Doha is more than 5 years old except the people, and they don't like being photographed! I have an idea though, and if I can find a way of implementing it I will get my entry in this month...I just hope this isn't another one to go the way of the PP challenge...

Morning

Been away for three weeks with minimal internet and just up after a three day/1200 mile drive to get home.

Knackered.

I'll look at all these this evening over a glass of red.

Apologies for the delay.

Afternoon. Settled down with a glass of red last night and ended up dozing in the chair

First up we have Gareths set. I like the tones, the setting and the processing. A point in its favour is the use of the same setting on each occasion. I can see the generation gap between the boys and the other people, but not a gap between the others. I'd have liked one of the photos to be an older person if possible.

Second up is Frogherder. I'm using a 3 watt valve amp at the moment so I have a soft spot for this set. Unfortunately I find it a very dry set with not much to hold my attention, although I do like the use of different background material.

Next we have ReklawyksEkul. I really liked this set. Excellent atmosphere throughout and good use of b&w. Nice range of generations and people. Very good light and the bit of noise in the third doesn't bother me in the slightest - the grain adds to the feel in my view.

Lastly we have JudithAnns set. I'd been hoping for something of this type when I set the subject. I really like the light and colour in the first image. Gives a nice warm feel to it which is what nostalgia is all about for me. Great light and colour again in the second with the rainbow being the icing on the cake. I like the fact that the last image is in silhouette. Almost gives it a hard, impersonal edge, which added to the warmth of the first image sort of goes along with our conception of the past being soft and cuddly and the present being all hard edged.

JudithAnn therefore gets first place with a highly commended going to ReklayksEkul.

Thank you.....I almost did not enter, as other pressing matters were, well, pressing.

I had said that with the extention of an extra month, I would enter.

I have absolutely no idea for the comp....and I have just opened my mail. I will put my thinking cap on, and post something soon.

Congrats to Reklay.

I will try to make it fun and hopfully we can spark more interest as I feel the entry levels very low.....

Well done JudithAnn and Iqbal. Apologies for not entering I had an idea based on generations of aircraft but only managed to get two shots of the three required and they weren't much good anyway.

Congratulations JudithAnn, a really lovely series of shots, and Iqbal too. I did intend to enter but I kind of ran out of inspiration - I don't get to get out much in Summer. I'll do something next time to help carry on the comp.
