I was wondering too, about half an hour ago!
It's late Spring where he is. Probably out and about with his camera.

Hi all.
I was wondering if someone has heard about our well regarded friend from Argentina: Dirk1000. Just hit me last night we haven't heard from him, in a long time. I sure hope nothing is wrong, over there in Argentine.
Last posting by him was the 9th of June this year, in the old competition round; "tools of the trade"

Well, I was communicating with Dirk the early part of this year and the following is an excerpt from one of his emails, he was planning his retirement as a pilot, so I presume he is out in the mountains gathering his words and images for his book:
quote" Dear Lilly,
Very happy with hear from you.
I feel pleased you liked my CD work. I say this because I feel a great esteem in your photography and art appreciation. Your acceptation of my work is an honor.
Thanks Lilly for so kind and stimulating words.
And I will tell you a little part of the other story; my Pentax story.
At this year (October) I must do my retirement because of my age, my years of service and all other required for this… So with tears in my eyes I must assume my new condition.
In the past June (2007) knowing the above mentioned, I bought my first SLRC for specially redo the CD work, but this time with more professional images. The circumstances did I decided than the best SLRC was the Pentax.
And here am I, with the camera hanging from my neck ant taking pictures of La Alta Montaña all than I can. Just remains 9 months for end taking the aerial photos (comes with my retirement). Then surely I will do a couple (or a lot) of mountain strips (by horse or walking perhaps) and take all this images I couldn’t do from the air.
This part will be the most pleasant, the most emotional and the most adventurous of the project. I must visit all my friends at his own homes, and you can be secured they are many people, many houses to visit, many friends to embrace… Pregnant mothers I carried with the plane to hospital, today his sons and daughters have more than 25 years. All a life for revive!
I can say, I’am very happy with my Pentax decision, first at all because is an incredible and powerful camera, and second, but very most important than the camera´s attributes, is that I could discover in the Pentax forum many wonderful peoples, peoples with a deep knowledge in photography with a great and kind volition for help and teach, but over all the things, peoples who made me feel at home. And made me feel at home, with the same feelings I remember from my childhood when I lived in my native country (Belgium, 60 years ago); questions of culture I suppose." end quote
I do have an email address for him but not sure how up to date it is, he was having problems with his internet connection at home.
If you would like to PM me I will send it.

Thanks Lilly,
I appreciate it very much, that you filled us in. It's good to know everything is all right with him, and he is enjoying a new and so important period in his life. I sure hope he finds the time in the not so distant future to log in here again, and share some of his experiences. With photo's of course. If it is not to much trouble, could you send him a message on behave of us, stating our thoughts and feelings about him not being with us at the moment?
Thanks in advance,
Martin.

That is great to hear. I wondered about Dirk a few weeks ago and tried to send an email to him. That email did bounce twice and so I gave up.
So I hope he will get our thoughts through you, Lilly. Thanks for that.

I was thinking about him the other week when I was printing out one of my photos - he has (or had) it hanging in his house - and it occurred to me that I'd not heard for a while. Then my heating collapsed, and my brain froze and I forgot to do anything about it.
I hope we hear from him soon. Hopefully he is just off enjoying a well earned retirement.

It's very touching that members feel concern for regulars when they go 'missing' from the Forum for more than a few weeks. It struck me that although you feel you've made a lot of friends when you join this site you don't really know them and most probably won't ever meet more than a handful of them. Membership stands at more than 7,500 so you can't keep track of everyone but you look forward to pictures and comments from the regulars. If something happens to a member no one might ever know. I wasn't aware of Dirk 1000 and Promhandicam until Malo (Martin) and Dr Mhuni voiced concerns for their well being. They have not been regular contributors since I joined in July but I wish them well and hope everything is OK.
