Miranda 700 cd with Kx

Hi everyone, i am a pentax user just over a year. I decided to get cheap flash gun few weeks go. From ebay I graped one. Actually it is clean nice and work on its own with test button. Then i tested trigger voltage and it is about 9 volts. I thought that is safe to use and put it on the camera. My problem starts here camera see flash, i cannot up shutter speed more than 1/180 which i can go up without flash. So everythink is normal but when i shoot, flash does not fire. Something is wrong in their communication. I just wonder if anybody tried any of these flashes and managed to fire it? Secondly, I just wonder, if there is any adjustment need to be done in camera to use manuel flashes? Kind Regards, Melih

Hi Peekie;

Actually, i do not have any other body to try it on and only flash I have is older flash I mentioned above. Actually, I used that older unit with mt fujifilm S9600 before I buy Kx. It did not fry digital camera but I am still concerned about using it on Kx.

Hi Melih

I have an old Miranda 500CD which works perfectly on my K-x and on my K-5 when set to the 'Pentax' mode (it is multi-dedicated as is the 700CD). However, strangely it will not fire when attached via a hot-shoe cable extension.

I suspect that the Miranda flash units may be a little sensitive to the trigger voltage and possibly yours is more sensitive than some.

I believe Pentax are ISO10330:2002 compliant, which states a 25 volt standard as maximum flash trigger. I wouldn't chance the older unit if I were you! David might well have identified the answer to your problem in his post.

I think i am going to buy another cheap flash unit on ebay to try on my kx.
