Might be time for an up-grade - Clearout time...

I've been having a (what I consider) a 'good-photography' (at least better) couple of months and thinking I maybe deserve a K5 to replace my K-x...

Problem is that since graduation I've as yet found no full-time employment and although I have two part-time jobs the hours are fairly sporadic until October...

As such, I remain utterly potless...

So reckon I need to sell some bits and pieces of Pentax photography gear (camera's and lenses) in order to buy some more Pentax photography gear (K5 and WR18-55)...

NB: AT THIS POINT I AM SIMPLY THINKING OUT LOUD - NOTHING IS CURRENTLY FOR SALE - WHEN IT IS I SHALL TAKE IT TO A LOCAL DEALER OF PUT UP A CLASSIFIED AD IN THE RELIVANT SECTION

Currently I have:

K-x & 18-55 kit(To be sold - But last item to go)
Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 (to be sold)
DA50-200WR (keeping)
D-FA100mm macro 2.8 (keeping)
FA's 50-1.4; 28-2.8; 35-f2 (keeping)
MZ-7 & F35-70 (keeping)
Orange MEsuper & M50-1.4(to be sold)
Purple MG & M40-2.8 (keeping)
Honey Spotmatic (cream leather) & 55mm 1.8 (keeping)
Brown MX &50mm 1.4 (keeping)
Prog-A & Vivitar 19mm f3.8 (to be sold)

My question is...
Do we reckon 2 film cameras with these lenses, my K-x and kit, and the Tammy (which I just don't use) will cover the cost of a K5; or am I in cuckoo land?!

Saving at the moment just ain't an option as I have nothing to save...

Another thing is - I've really enjoyed collecting all this stuff but I only use the AF-primes on digital and only really use the MX & MZ7 film camera's (altough all work and have new seals etc)

What to do???

It's a process that us photographers never grow out of...so keep agonising and enjoy it!

Of course as soon as you sell something there's the every present danger of wishing you still had it....

You reckon the items I'm considering flogging off will fetch enough brass for a new K5 and WR18-55?

I'll miss looking at them but I so rarely use them I'm hoping the K5 will make up for the loss...

I don't think you'll even be close, but to double check you could have a search through the completed auctions on eBay.

At least close to a used one, especially if a new model is announced and prices will decrease....

A new K5 with:
1. DA18-135WR or
2. DA*16-50 F2.8

Keep:
1. DA5-200WR
2. D-FA100 F2.8
3. FAs: 50 F1.4, 28 F2.8, 35 F2

Orange, purple and brown ???

Personally I wouldn't sell the Tamron 17-50 to replace it with the 18-55 just because it has WR - the better IQ of the 17-50 will be much more of a benefit than the occasional need for WR (if ever in my case & I shoot 90% of the time in North Wales!!)

The only time I've used zooms recently has been when I've wanted the reach offered by the DA50-200... I haven't used the Tamron17-50 since obtaining my FA35... To keep it seems a waste...

When it rains anything more than a little bit my camera goes away... I get no shots...

A WR kit lens would see more use than the Tammy (although hopefully not at much as my primes...) if only out of piece of mind...



Anyway part-ex and selling through my local shop apparently won't raise enough for a new K5 (popped in today) he reckons even sold alone the M40-2.8 will only fetch £40 tops... £25 for an ME he said even clean and with new seals...

I've sold a few m40 2.8 lenses on eBay for around £90 mark

I've advertised on gumtree and a couple of local networks

Gonna try sell as cam & lens kits rather than splits...
