These are the top twenty from the Nikon competition for photography on a microscopic scale.

Certainly worth a look. Some are stunningly beautiful, some weird, all amazing.

It was sponsored by Nikon and they provided the prizes, but entry was open to any camera from any brand.

The wasp eye is very impressive, and I like the salt crystals in the soy sauce,, but to be honest most of these are so far beyond anything I could achieve (because I don't have a bazillion pound microscope ) that they somehow less appealing than an 'ordinary' macro with a consumer macro lens.

I think there is a slightly 'antiseptic' feel to them, but a terrific set of images, never the less. Whilst the kit available to shoot them is at the upper end, at which point does technology make the image become less appealing? After all, many macro lens shots are far from anything your eye would normally see.

Its less of an amazement when you know an electron microscope was used. I was really impressed by the milk bottle diffuser macro shots linked recently. That was something to aspire to and achievable.
Lurking is shirking.!
