MF on lens or body?

I have a K20d with DA16-50 currently fitted
I seem to remember reading if you have manual focus switch on the lens you should use this over the one on the body?

Not sure if that is correct, however if I use the lens switch and leave the one on the body to AFS then the shutter will not operate until its in focus, so which is correct?

You have catch in focus enabled?
