Hi

Just brought a Metz 48 AFI to use with my K20 and am confused!

the flash and camera both have settings for exposure bracketing and compensation. Which one do you use ?, reading the instructions indicates you use the camera settings, so why put these settings also on the flash. Also which programs are best to use on the camera for flash.

Thanks

.

On camera bracketing changes the aperture/shutter speed settings (depending on program).

But as a guess (don't own the Metz 4 I would suggest that the flash bracketing could be done by changing the power of the flash but all pictures will be at the same aperture and shuuter speed.
Good luck

Is it that the power changes? I believe the power is always the same, but it appears to change as the flash just changes the length of time it's actiavted.

Could be wrong though, not really the point either!

I always use the settings on camera (via Fn button). It is more convenient, especially when using wireless flash!

When using a two flash set up, then settings on the flash will only impact that flash, so useful for more advanced techniques and also manual flash settings.

The flash only fires one time in all modes besides HS flash and strobe mode.
You get the extra length because the power increase but because the flash is more powerfull it has a longer glows longer.
With HS mode the flash strobes so that the whole sensor is covered, if it wouldn't do that the shutter curtains will block part of the sensor when thee flash fires.

flash "power" is regulated by pulse time, the flash stays on until whatever meter system is in use (Auto, TTL, P-TTL) tells it that enough light has been received at which point it cuts out.

Calling this a power adjustment is technically inacurate, since power is energy over time. The Power is never changed, but the same power is delivered for longer or shorter time to alter the total energy delivered.

HSS is something quite different and requires impressive levels of computer control to strobe the flash in such a way that the whole frame gets illuminated.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Okay thank you for making that clear Mongoose, I really though it regulated the flash output with "power" since the flash doesn't get that hot when using less power but in a way it makes sense though.
