Metz 15 MS-1

Hi Royd,
Have had it for quite a few years, first with K5iis and now with KP, used it with a Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro, and now with a new Pentax SMC 100mm F2.8 DFA WR (with a 49mm stepup ring).
Works fairly well with PTTL using the camera's built-in flash as a Controller. I don't bother with the clip-on IR filter.
Gets a few comments from other photographers at wild-life areas. Not sure how you'd use it without a pop-up flash?
Uses 2 x AAA batts, which last a long time. I always carry spare recharged ones in the handy plastic case it comes in.
It does have a cable though, which seems to work, manually?
I sometimes wish I'd bought the Pentax ring-flash at nearly twice the price, which is now discontinued, and as rare as hen's teeth!
I believe that macro flashes aren't terribly good with PTTL, or other metering systems?
Cheers,
Phil

Thanks Phil
I have the K3 so it does have the pop up flash.
It says it works wirelessly not sure how that would work with the K3.
Is is easy to use?
I am no expert with flashes

Hi Roy,
I'd suggest downloading the Manual from the Metz site. It's in a zillion languages, and English is in about the middle. Best bet is to set it up to the Pentax setup and try that. Unit supports various manufacturer's as standard. If that doesn't work for you try Manual with the Sync-cable. Many Macro fans recommend manual flash exp. anyway.
It's wireless using the popup flash as an optical Controller. Worked for me for years with the K5iis, and for the last few days with the KP. KP seems a bit more predictable, probably because the popup flash is only 6 Guide No., so less ambient light (without the IR filter)?
It's all-in-one with nothing attached to the camera's hot-shoe.
Well-made in Germany, not China!
It tends to over-expose a bit, but flash comp on the camera works.
Cheers,
Phil
Also there's a few fairly old reviews if you Google them. The American Forum also has a few User Reviews.

Does anyone have this flash or used it.
Looking for a macro flash and have seen this at a good price.
