Meteorites tonight.

Tripod and cable/remote release (or 2sec timer up to 30sec. SR off. 18mm
A twenty to thirty second exposure at high ISO (3200 or 1600) wide open at the widest angle should do the trick. There will be a couple of meteors a minute so excellent chances of getting a good trail. If you can find an interesting foreground object then all the better (you can light paint it with a torch for a few seconds). Set the camera up just before nightfall so you can see what you are doing and framing.
Or go for bulb and star trails. Twenty minutes will give a decent arc. Remember dark frame subtraction doubles exposure times. Fully charge batteries. Low ISO at wide open will be fine. Can be stopped down depending on what light is around.
'Source' of shower is Eastern horizon, although meteors can be seen anywhere. Best before moonrise (although a waning crescent won't ruin it).

I agree, mirror up if you have it, bulb or 20 seconds with a remote if possible. I do think the best chance is a long exposure though. We sadly live in a town so too much light pollution for the promised 60 an hour!
A sturdy tripod of course. Shower will centre from the North East, the later in the night the better before dawn. Midnight for most of us I guess! Let's hope the sky is clear.
I think 2 sec timer turns off SR anyway.

I'd also give multiple exposure mode a work out and stack up a number of shorter exposures on one frame to reduce noise...
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Hi Don, I've not tried stacking for night skies. What interval would you use and what software to combine?

just the multiple exposure mode in camera.Hi Don, I've not tried stacking for night skies. What interval would you use and what software to combine?
find an exposure for a single shot that works, then use that as the basis for the combined total of exposures you will shoot in multiple exposure mode.

Multiple exposure only allows up to 9 on my K5. That's why I assumed Interval shooting.
I've also been trying to set up a suitable User Mode ready for going out in the dark. I have manual, low ISO, SR off, Noise reduction options off so far as I guess the camera think stars could be noise. Any suggestions for anything else anyone?
Looking like cloud here in Derbyshire UK sadly although I understand he following night could be good too.

Wow. This thread has been up for four hours without any pedantic comments about the title. A new record!

Did you get a good display last night? I didn't see any, even though I was outside, after midnight, for nearly an hour . Should have gone to bed early and got up early instead perhaps.

No, stayed up 'til midnight, looking at 10/10ths. cloud cover!
a few more nights possible but the start of the week isn't looking good weather-wise!
Thanks for all the advice (for next time!)
Have a good Sunday.
Roger.
