medium format film loading

This maybe a stupid question but I've never had a 645 n before

do you have to load the 120 mag with film in the dark like a sealed bad with holes in it for your hands or do you just treat it like a 35 mm film loading

hopefully I get my camera in the next day or two I have received lens and film this week

120 film has a paper backing and a paper leader, enough to ensure you can load it in subdued light without harm. Do keep the roll tight though as you load it, and only wind it as far as the mark on the backing paper.

John. If I remember rightly from my MF 645 when you put the film on its 120 back and close it up it either rolls on to the first frame itself OR when you press the shutter it moves to the first frame.?? As it is motorised you don't have to wind it on like the TLCs or the old bellows type cameras. If I'm wrong then SORRY but I think I'm right. Then it just automatically moves on one frame at a time each time you take a shot. CHEERS Vic.

P.S. I just thought what you meant was when you actually load it onto the spool to only take it as far as the mark.

There's a line on the backing paper that needs to line up to an arrow on the film back. You load the film and wind it to there. Once the back is in the camera, the first time you press the shutter it will wind on to the first frame.

None of this has too be done in the dark, but as John said, don't let the film become loose or light will get in. Don't drop it or it will unravel.

what about when it's finished will the camera rewind the film or is this a manual exercise ?

When it finishes it will rewind automatically.

Always carry a couple of rubber bands in your bag, one time the sticky paper at the end of the roll will fall of and blow away

the post came today but no camera but I have been sent a letter by royal mail asking for £60 and if I want it delivering on Saturday I have to pay a extra £12


so 72 pounds for a 200 pound camera and yet the lens was 150 pounds with no postage charges from the same country

You're welcome. It really depends if they catch you or not.

You may have found this out by now, but you don't 'rewind' roll film, it moves from the loaded spool to the take-up spool (like a reel to reel tape recorder). You then seal the roll with the 'tape' attached to the end (some films are self-adhesive others you have to lick the back like an envelope) and swap the empty spool to be the new take-up spool.

I once lost a take up spool thereby rendering a very expensive camera useless for want of a part you cannot buy

I request the empty spool when submitting film to be developed and get it back with the negs/slides. As you say, you cannot buy spares.
