I find a good technique when using my old Pentax MF lenses (which have a firm smooth movement to the focus ring) is to 'focus through' the subject first, sort of going just slightly past, then backing off again to out of focus, and finally coming through again to achieve the perfect focus.
Its sort of three movements, but I find that having moved the ring past the focus point firstly, coming back again and then trying again kind of teaches your fingers the exact amount to move. I found with only one attempt you're never quite sure if you've nailed it exactly.

I use Live View more now (about 55% to 60% of the time) but when I use the viewfinder, I do a variation of McGregNi's method (well I do it twice as much haha).

Don't forget the standard focussing screen can't resolve DOFs shallower than about F/2.8 I was having real problems focussing with my Samyang 85mm f1.4 so I bought a Pentax O-ME53 magnifying eyepiece. I have real trouble focussing with my 50/1.2 and manual 1.4 lenses, so have to use live view which is accurate

Thank you matron. The adverts on here are not controlled by PU. I think they are Google Ads, so we get what reflects what we are looking at I suppose.
Best regards, John

Of course the funny thing is the more times people saying things like "Nikon" and "D800" in a thread, the more likely the adverts are to appear....

Oh it's Google is it? Aren't they clever - I've been seeing ads for the ExpoDisc ever since asking about it here a while ago, but of course I had also been looking at the ExpoDic prices on Amazon and Fotosense etc.
So do Google just pick up on our shopping browsing, or is it actually items we refer to on the forum (I put a link to the ExpoDisc site for other members info).?

Ahh that's why I don't see them. I sue Adblock Plus for Firefox, which blocks most ads including google ads. Makes for a less brain rotting browsing experience

Both, I think. Be careful what you wish for.

Algi, the eyepiece is an interesting thought, when using these do you lose anything on the sides when looking through the viewfinder? but something to follow up none the less.
Thanks all
H
like shutter speed etc.
