Look in the custom menu for Use of Aperture Ring and set that to "premitted" - then use stop down metering and it should work.

in menu there will be setting, Using Aperture Ring" select "Permitted".

Put the camera in M mode, use the green button to meter and then shoot. My K200D underexposes by around 2/3 of a stop from the metering in this mode, I think yours will too as it's about the same age. After metering, click the wheel twice to increase the exposure time before shooting (or open the aperture one or two notches more).
I'd also recommend shooting in RAW so that you can recover a bit if the exposure is still off.
