Manual Exposure??

I set my K10D to manual with exposure set at f8 and 1/30. I shot a series of remote images, using the eyepiece cover, which emerged at a range of different exposures from f7.1 to f10. When I select manual, I expect to use my own settings - what happened, and how did the camera override my settings?

what lens?
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I suspect you zoomed for various exposures, and the aperture will change as you zoom unless the lens is a constant aperture design.

Are you sure you are reading the EXIF correctly? Depending on the software it can be wrong.

That doesn't sound right. There is a program item which you can turn on which will auto compensate exposure, but I dont think it applies in manual exposure.

By the way, if you are setting your exposure in Manual mode with your eye to the viewfinder, you dont then need to use the eyepiece cover.

I was using the 18-55 kit lens. Everything was set to manual and the zoom was not used (I was doing some multiple exposure shots), and I used the eyepiece cover, remembering the advice I had received years ago with reference to my LX body and its metering system.
Hmmm, yes it could be the EXIF which was not read properly. I was using PS Elements 6. Does anyone else have experience of this phenomenon with PSE 6?

I have had this experience some years ago, studio set up and everything on manual. It was only when looking at he PSE 'contact sheet' that I could see an exposure variance. No idea why I'm afraid.
