Wow! that is a drop!

Any explanation? Global price change or someone shifting some hooky gear?!

Maybe Pentax have decided to stop subsidising the US market!! Seriouslywithin currency fluctuiations why should there be such a price difference when all the cameras are made in the same place. Maybe the ideais to stop all the grey imports from the East and USA. Whatever the reason, it must be good news.

It's a competitive world.
With the Canon EOS 300D and the Nikon D70, and then the big drop of the Olympus E1...No choice for Pentax.
All the better for us.
Still, it gives you a sinking feeling in the pit of the stomach after having paid so much...
But wait 2 years and the ist-D2 (2nd-D? 2st-D? - ist-D isn't exactly a name for moving forward with) will be out at £500.
Best not to look at the prices.

I agree with Dave! It's that aggghhh feeling!

Still, depreciation on digital cameras is very high, just like computers. At the end of the day it's what you do with the camera that matters - how you use it to touch people's emotions

You could sit and wait for ever for the 'right' deal...

Nope, not been any American forums
Didn't mean to be soppy (urgh - pass the bucket stuff), just making the point that you should worry about how you make use of something, rather than just the money! (Though it still hurts!!)

Keep smiling

No such luck. The price is back up to £1049 again.

I got my money ready and was all set to go up there and buy one (its only 10 miles away), checked the website again and the low price has miraculously gone up. Rang them and there's no way they'll honour the price. Stuff them, then.

So it seems there was no price restructure from Pentax after all.

Maybe I'll just forget it and stick with my happy snappy!

Nope - a grand is too much for me.

That would put it again at £250 over what I could get it brought back from the States for.

£899 was close enough to negate the £££ benefits.

I'm a tad p'd off with the price rise. It could only have been on at £899 for 2 days before going up. Maybe it got the store some publicity? I certainly noticed links to it in several places. Well, I am naturally cynical!

And I was ready to drive up there too! If I'd have know I would've gone straight up on Monday!!! Grrrrr!

I would like to buy an ist-D as I believe all the lenses from my old K1000 will fit it, but wonder why the best UK price I had found, until I saw the price above, was almost £500 more than in the US by mail order ($1193 at Digital Foto). I know most things are cheaper in the US but that's one heck of a difference.
Before I decided a digital SLR was my best option, I almost bought a Fuji S7000 from an airport Dixons - which I've found are usually very competitive - last autumn it was £565, last month £408. It DOES pay to wait, and sometimes for not very long! The Fuji M603 was over £700 when introduced about 2 years ago. It's about £230 now. They really stick it to us when something's new. Nuts to Pentax, they can wait longer for less money.

Great shame that the price drop was an error.
Long-term, with the competition from the Nikon D70 and recent poor reviews in the photographic (mainly due to it being overpriced), the high price of the ist-D must harm Pentax.
But who am I to question the marketing might of Pentax?

Anyhow, that's not why I posted.

I'm just looking on e-bay, and there are 3 ist-D packages going for £1099 (camera, 2 lenses, bag, card, etc.) - good value.

Worth a peep:

According to PP it is also available at Wilkinson Cameras for 999 including the 18-35
(not mentioned on the website which does not list Pentax cameras at all )

Oh the temptation of it - especially as Wilkinson to a buy now pay later deal....
But I will be patient and wait to see if the 'budget' pentax dslr emerges...
