I've never been a particularily patriotic purchaser (except where whisky is concerned).
My current car is British built although it was bought because it was a Honda, not because it was built in Britain. My previous car was also a Honda but actually made in the USA.

Don't believe I want whisky from China either.
It's odd how little events pop up. I was getting a name put on a T Shirt the other day. This company does this on thousands and thousands of T Shirts, Jackets and Baseball hats they stock every year. The guy looked at my Fire Dept hat and asked what brand. I took it off and showed him. Oh, he said this is the best brand hat you can buy and it's made in Vietnam, that's real good, they do a great job. Just stay away from Chinese made Baseball hats, they are junk.
So maybe it's not all bad Pentax has some of their lenses made in Vietnam.

The difference with products from China is simply a matter of if the maker of the product have their own quality control in the factory or not. From personal experience in the machine tool trade for 39 years travelling around the world found that on visits to China the first words out of their mouths were JOINT VENTURE! Both Jeep And VW have plants in China and the vehicles are OK as they have their own inspectors. The english boot and shoe company of Griggs (Doc Martins) have moved to China with their own people in charge of QC. The company I worked for in the UK both made and exported machines worldwide and also imported some. One was a small american machine which was very good and wellknown. The company was bought by another american who started to have the machine made in China with no supervision from the USA. This was total disaster and the machine lost a good reputation. Within 4/5 years the company was bought again and manufacture returned to the USA and all was well again. CHEERS Vic
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.

Made in the USA?
I bought an American motorcycle, actually only two parts were made in the USA: the frame and the engine. When the engine decided to destroy itself, one month out of warranty, it was because the Taiwanese oil pump had failed. Forks and springs are Italian, seat is ... and so it goes on. I have a German car that is built in the USA but most of the plastic and cloth bits say 'Made in Mexico' on the bottom. I've owned three Japanese cars, one was built in Spain, one in Canada and the other amazingly in Japan.
We live in a global economy I dont give a hoot for any jingoistic nonsense about 'Made in *' We buy what we like/want/afford

I wouldn't drink "beer" made in the USA either! Well OK, Samuel Adams if there was nothing else.

From my standpoint, I still look at labels and prefer to see Made in USA.
I know for a Camera/Lens product that has been impossible for years. In that case I prefer Made in Japan.
