The dedicated macro lens will have a very flat field of focus which means you can photograph a piece of paper on a copystand and it will all be nicely in focus. Usually (I don't know about the Nokton specifically) "normal" lenses do not have such a flat field. This really is less of an issue with macros of flowers and the like.
As to focus rails, not that I know of. Sadly, the Pentax one is as rare as hen's teeth (I have only seen one on ebay in three years!). Some of the others are quite expensive. There are cheap Chinese ones on ebay but I have no idea how rigid they are (obviously a wobbly focus rail is less use than a chocolate teapot). Sadly, the cheap Chinese ones are not so cheap I want to gamble on one!
Best wishes, Kris.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Thanks, I'll see how I go off the rails first. The Nokton is just a manual prime so really its the difference between any decent manual prime on tubes vs a dedicated macro lens.
Lurking is shirking.!

If you are looking for a rail and like macro work then I have some gear that may be of interest to you. This is a link to my a set of auto bellows that I am currently trying to sell. They are on Carmarthen cameras website if you are interested. Great for macro work, allows you to move the camera to focus, like a rail.

What is the quality difference between my Nokton lens on the extension tubes vs say a dedicated DFA100mm?
Also is there an easy DIY focus rail type solution?
Thanks
