Macro lenses + hoods

I would like to know the thoughts of other macro lens users regarding lens hoods. On the above lens the front lens element is recessed quite deep into the lens barrel. Would a hood still be necessary or does it depend on situation, subject lighting etc?

Many macro lenses do have deeply recessed front elements, thus reducing or even eliminating, the need for a hood.

But you've answered your own question, it depends on situation, subject lighting, etc.
