M42/K Mount question

Probably a stupid question, but you are pressing the AF button or half-pressing the shutter button, correct? I'm only asking because it's a bit counter-intuitive to press the AF button while manually focussing.

It shouldn't do. I usually find M42 lenses easier to use than older K-mount glass because you can leave the camera in Av mode and just open and close the aperture with the auto/man switch. I don't pay much attention to the hexagon as I prefer to rely on the split-screen but it certainly works.half pressing on the shutter button.
Doing what I normally do with the other MF lenses. Didn't anticipate the M42 fitting would change things.

You may have to check that using aperture ring is set in the Custom Menu and if there are any other restrictions set for when the aperture ring is used. I know the camera doesn't know what aperture is set because of the adapter, but it may be blocking other stuff. I think it's on a Sony that you have to set allow use with no lens to use adapters, otherwise a warning pos up saying no lens attached.
Also check that focus on half press is set.

Its official - I'm an idiot. Didn't twig Dangermouses last bit in the brackets until I read Algi's comment re the aperture ring setting. I didn't bother with that on the K-X - on the K-5 I've just changed it to allowed and everything works perfectly. Asks for the focal length, green light comes on, beep sounds, red light comes on screen to show focus point etc.

You should get some really good photos with that lens
Edit: Just been looking at the other forum about Canon FD lenses and stumbled on this which may help. I've only glanced at it and it seems OK.

I bought an adaptor from SRB that had the same issue of the lens mounting "upside down" presumably because the starting point of the thread is not consistent. The customer service contact at SRB was very helpful and offered to exchange it for one he had checked to ensure it mounted with the index mark approximately at the top. In the end I bought this one as a second adaptor and kept the first to use on a bellows setup where the bellows mount can be rotated anyway.
Incidentally the SRB adaptor has a flange that actuates the aperture pin on automatic lenses which is useful if they don't have an auto/manual switch.
