M lenses on DS

Hello all.
Again, the same thing, but i was not able to find a response in the previous post ( or i didn't find it!)

The thing is that i have 4 M lenses, and today i've bought a ist DS with a 18-55.

So, i first test the body with the lens kit, and then i want to test my other lenses, and nothing!!

Manual focus- manual mode: nothing
Any combination: nothing.

So is sure i'm missing something, can somebody give me a tip?
In any mode, the " Av" blinks in the finder, and it's not posible to shoot. Dead.

Well, i'll continue to try, but.....i need help.

On my *st D, I have to set a custom function in the menu system to "allow apeture other than A". Once this is done, my M lenses work just fine, although in Manual mode (after all, they are manual focus and manual metering lenses).

I suspect that on the DS there's a similar function buried in the menus somewhere. RTFM!

I've even used cheap pawn-shop off-brand lenses on he *st D. You get the most use out of a lens with an A setting on the apeture ring, but if you're used to manual metering with your M lenses, then there should be no problem for you.

You do indeed need to activate the appropriate custom function, and the manual is delightfully obscure as it describes how things work...

In summary, you can use Aperture Priority and the camera will change the shutter speed as the light varies, but the lens will always be at open aperture. Or, you can use any aperture by utilising Manual Exposure and operating the stop-down lever to stop the lens down.

Some of us think it's superbly simple to do this and no more inconvenient than any manual exposure system. Others (including me) think it's all a bit of a bother and prefer to use "A" lenses and later, which work with full functionality (within the limitations of the lens of course!)

As you said John, this subject has been covered, i've seen some days ago the thread, but yesterday.....i didn't find it!

Everything is ok, it works perfect, i've test just the 50/1.7.
Now i'm going to try the 135/3.5, and the pancake 40/2.8.

I'm very pleased with the camera in this first hours.
