Yay! also someone interested in a 200mm lens.

The lens have some good feedback on the USA forum link
But Pentax DSLR do like A lenses better because of the auto aperture they have but on the USA forum they are less happy with that lens.
The M 200 f/4 also seems like a bargain secondhand so surely worth a try I believe.

On the forum they are talking about $60 so £40 seems right price for a good one.

awww well the price did went up for lenses but many bought it end and beginning of that year for £40 in America, you didn't pay a lot more hopefully.
Now that I see current prices it isn't that bad maybe.

No, it was offered at £88 not I offered less, wasn't expecting my offer to be accepted. If I like it and hang on to it, it may increase in value

Like said it seems like prices has gone up so if you pay a bit less then that you seem to have it for a decent price.
It's a nice lens and, Have played with M lenses and they are wonderfully build so they will last for years. Enjoy the lens and his bokeh.

No problem.
Bokeh is the appearance of point of light sources in an out-of-focus area of an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field.
Wikipedia say it so lovely.
It's simply how smooth the out of focus part of a photo looks.
A good bokeh is smooth and not distracting.

Lens arrived today and tried it out. Don't really know what I am doing yet I think I like the lens though
I know the bee isn't sharp in this, but not bad on MF.

What settings did you use Jeanette and did you crop the photos?
The first one looks very good, will do some PP on that to pull all the detials out, you might be amazed what is in there.
The same with the second one, it looks very good.
Third one is a bit over exposed I think, the focus might be just oof or you moed a bit. DOn't know that yet but it doesn't looks so good at the first 2
Fourth one also just overexposed I think.
As you can see the bokeh (background) is pretty smooth and buttery.
Try it out for portrait wide open so f/4, it would preform very well.

I think you use an wider apeture so more light comes on the sensor but you forgot to adjust the shutterspeed.
You need to premit aperture ring as a setting yes.
You can use M-mode and by pressing the green button it will set the correct shutterspeed for the apeture you have set the lens on.
AV-mode also works. Press the green button and it will meter the difference between wide open and when closing the lens for the metering and adjust the shutterspeed all the times. Don't forget to take a new metering when you change the apeture ring
You can also use capture in focus, that means you play the focus motor part and you move the focusing till the camera comfirm it's in focus and it will take a photo.
Don't know precisly how it goes but other forum members can help you with that.

I am not sure I really understand all of what you have told me, but I will try and use it on Sunday when I try some portraits. Hopefully I will get it somewhere near right. It is a lovely lens
