LR4 Problem

For several weeks, when ever I try to export images from LR4 - I get the below message. The message itself is fairly clear other than I have no idea what memory it is talking about - anybody any ideas? I have plenty of hard disc space - I am running a PC with 4gb RAM and I am not multi tasking.

Any suggestions welcome - it is driving me mad!

Just some suggestions ...

- check your memory usage in Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Escape to open then select the Processes tab) and sort the memory column - posting an image of this may help
- LR4.4 was released this week, worth updating
- after editing try closing and reopening LR4 before trying to export to see if that helps
- make sure your video drivers are up to date as there have been some LR glitches in the past due to these

If you don't get anywhere then posting your OS and hardware spec's may be helpful.

What operating system are you using? You may not have enough virtual memory allocated. This works on Windows 8, as far as I remember it's the same on XP or Vista.

Go to Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Advanced and click the Settings button under Performance. Click Advanced and check you have 5632 mb allocated. If not, click the Change button, untick the box at the top, select Custom Size and change the allocated memory to 5632mb. Click Set then OK, close the box and restart your computer.

Another thought- how full is your hard drive? If it's got less than a few gigs of memory left then you will also get a problem with virtual memory, as it uses space on your hard drive.

You can also probably get away with setting 3526mb of virtual memory rather than the 5632mb I mentioned in my previous post, but the larger figure is better. If you are changing it, set the minimum and maximum size to the same number. That way it will allocate all the space on start-up, rather than having to keep increasing the paging file size while you are using it. If you have two hard disks, split the virtual memory equally between both drives (ie 3526mb on each).
