Lost pics, on SD card

I goofed up yesterday and accidently deleted 200 pics from my SD card while downloading them to my PC

I immediately quarantined the card and installed the recovery software you get with Sandisk Extreme III cards,

I was sucessfull in recovering 160 of the pics, but for some weird reason it wasn't sucessfull with the last 40 shots on the card. It will show the missing pics in thumbnail form at 65kbs per pic, but not at thier original size: When I click on the thumbnail it just shows a greyed out frame.

I paid for and downloaded another recovery program from the web, but got the exact same result. All the missing shots were taken at the same time in an old time Pub in Alice Springs. (live snakes and spiders crawling around) So its kinda weird that it will recover all the shots up to this point and then fail :: Any Ideas :

It could be that your card size is too large for the software to handle. There are limits on each version.

At a guess you are using a 4GB or 8 GB card.


Which version of Rescue Pro do you have?

I'm using Rescue pro version 3.2 and it was a 4gig card.
I can't seem to find anything in regards to limits. :

I also downloaded Card recovery 5.20 and had the same problem

Rescue Pro 3.4 was updated to 16GB (although reliably it may be less) but cannot find out what 3.2 max capacity was.

4.0 is 32GB.


Also worth noting that you need 2xcard capacity spare on your HDD

4.0 also has capability to image the SDHC card - so you could do that, copy to another SDHC recover some, delete them from the second SDHC and then see if the others become available. It gives you something to play with whilst retaining the original.

Thanks mate, you have been very helpful, I have just been on the web site and downloaded Trail version 3.4, If it finds the pics I am missing I will have to pay for it before I can save them, so I will see how it goes

And don't forget about imaging the card. You have the original which you don't touch - just play with the copy.

It's worked for me in the past when others haven't!

There's another one free on the web called 'Zero Assumption Utility' that I have used sucessfully. It was recommeded to me by Olympus, when my wife's cameras XD card got corrupted.
