Looking for ideas

I have been thinking about this for a while now, and I feel I'm ready to seriously jump in to indie film making.
Obviously my Pentax gear is going to be put to good use.
My problem is I have wayy too many ideas floating about... and a shoestring budget.

I'm doing two short films this summer. Each budgeted for under $5000.00

So, what do my fellow photographers think would be interesting subjects/ideas/genre's?

let me put it this way.. I won't be paying royalties to anybody..
I'm basically trying to get feed back on what people might think are good genres, general ideas, subject matter... it might make the decision making process easier for me to focus on something....
Does that make sense? With a small budget and tight deadline (both self imposed) I need to pick one bird out of a flock, aim for it and hit it. I hope to pick something people may actually WANT TO WATCH...

Do you have a local university with budding screen writers? You might find one willing to give you a script.

Local tales, fables, nursery rhymes, legends, songs, traditional stories etc etc ... poems etc etc

Adapt and update. Its a noble art well trodden by the greats.

Don't forget to get permissions for your music or garage band it, or you won't get it shown anywhere.

And get decent actors too.
Lurking is shirking.!

I like that Idea, but I'm looking for something more general than a script... I'm just trying to gage which genre would likely be more in demand, script would be the next step.

But when you work with someone else's script, you get into creative control issues, so I'd prefer to make the script after deciding on genre and general concept...

Hmmm genre...
I like most actually it's just that either i like it to be smart (so that you need to think about the plot for example) or i love it when it carries you away.

This one of my favourite short movies out there, it's the atmosphere he can set that's just amazing.
