This evening saw our local camera club enter an inter-club competition where each club submits their best work to compete for a trophy on a league basis. To cut a long story short I came joint first out of 60 images of the best photos from 4 clubs and to say I'm chuffed is an understatement!

There were 4 of my images in the competition which was a real privilege and this was the winning entry. Full write up is on the blog here.

Only 15/20 for the ducks? These people have no sense of humour! The wasp shots OK but I prefer the Ducks and the Kingfisher shots. Well done in any case!

Many thanks for all the congrats guys, very much appreciated!

It was a shame that 'Bottoms Up' only got 15/20 as it was one of my favourite shots from last year. The judge actually marked it down as 'there shouldn't be comedy in a competition', can't say I agree with that but then the next judge might just hate wasps!

If there are any of you out there that do judge club competitions and you saw the image below in a comp I would love to know your thoughts (good or bad, I need to know!) as I'm still learning when it comes to this!

Thanks again and in advance!

I'm not a 'federation' judge but I have judged competitions at my own society, Durham PS and I must say that as duck pictures go this one is quite different and has lots of humour. I'm not a fan of those endless pictures you see on forums such as this of swans and ducks but every now and then along comes one that's quite different and worth more than a second glance. Your shot here is one such interesting picture.
For an experienced judge to say that there is no place in club photography for humour is just mind bogglingly stupid. But in the years I've ben in a camera club I've heard some amazingly stupid remarks by judges and witnessed some astonishing first place decisions.
Of course, not knowing the quality of the other pictures in your recent inter club competition I can't really comment on the marks given.

Congratulations on your other picture getting top marks.
