Local Area Groups

I have been a member of the Pentax Club longer than I care to remember, I joined in 1979 when I purchased my first Pentax SLR (an MX). In all that time I cannot recall ever seeing any of the the local groups appearing this far North (and I am only in Derby!) So are there any club members near me? and if so is there any interest in forming a local group in this area?

Please post your replies on this board - you never know it may encourage others.

There used to be one for the west midlands years ago, but it was disbanded due to lack of interest. I live in Lichfield BTW.

How would you all like to take this forward? Arrange an actual face to face meeting to try and kick things off or set up a virtual meeting area on the web to start with? (Will - are there any plans for local groups to have pages hosted on this site or would we need to set up something separate?)

I would attend an actual meeting but we do need more responses than posted so far. I am already involved in helping in the running of a local photographic society and in other areas as well, so any meetings for me would have to be probably quarterly at first.
There is potential in this, but only with enough people!

It's no problem to have a forum area of this site dedicated to specific local groups. I think we could also host pages for local groups but these would need to be set up by someone from each group.

I do agree with John that this will only work with enough people ( I have also bee involved in running camera clubs and well know the frustration of too few members!). Would it be worth setting up the topic area on the discussion board to focus on this? and maybe a short plug in the next edition of Pentax User.

I've just set one up. We're aiming to get more people to visit this web-site soon, hopefully things will pick up then.
