Cos it probably involves ditching Pentax altogether. And such talk is strictly verboten

A previous post on this thread mentioned the rear LCD being 'quite small on a K-r'. However, unless I am mistaken I think it is exactly the same size / resolution as the one on the K-5? In this case it will be excellent for focussing with Live View.

There's a previous post that refers to the viewfinder being small. It will be smaller than a K-5 if the view is not 100%, but as we're talking about Live View that's something else.

The K-5 is fine with Live View, clearly the best yet, but the K-01 is probably even better and this should carry over to the K-5 II and the K-5 IIs.

I don't mandate ditching Pentax but likewise don't think they have the ultimate solution for everyone. Unfortunately, the mere mention of this stirs some people into passionate territorial outbursts. I would rather avoid this sort of pointless conflict. Hence the PM.

I suppose I can say that I was in a very similar situation to the OP. I tried magnifiers, new focus screens, etc. but to no avail. A high quality EVF with zoom to focus solved the problem for me. For subjects that are relatively immobile I can get perfect manual focus without removing the camera from my eye.

And this lets me use my nicest Pentax lenses as well.

Example, under low light.

I use live for macro shots and still life on my K5 but i find it uses more battery power.

Immensely more battery power. For starters the display is ont permantely and then there's the solonoid holding the mirror up.

I normally get around 2000 shots per battery on a regular shoot.

I've just got into panoramic shooting ( bought a pano head ) and I've been using live view a lot for both calibrating the pan head and taking pano shots. Battery was drained in no time.

For macro shots using live view on a tripod I'd use the K-01 for preference, as it's designed to work that way. No mirror being held up, it's likely to last a little better as well.

After I installed the firmware update on my K7, there suddenly appears on the LCD after pushing the info button, a very nice 'attitude indicator' style horizon level indicator. Its a circle with a line through it that moves as you rotate the camera, and its far better and more accurate than the little dots you get in the viewfinder or on the top plate.

Another good feature of the Live View in Pentax.
