I used the Hahnel ones in my K-r and now use Maxsima ones in my K-5iis - never had any problems with either.

Who do you buy them from Phil I'm always worried about low grade fakes when it comes to batteries especially bought online.

Via Amazon - I think that the Hahnel ones came from Harrison Cameras. I can't recall who the supplier was for the Maxsima ones.

I've bought several Chinese Takeaways from Amazon (can't remember which suppliers) over the last four years for various Pentax cameras (K-r, K-5 series, MX-1 and K-S2) - no problems and still all working fine. There are so many about and so few reported problems that I'll take the risk - but that choice, of course, is yours.

Cheers.

Can't go wrong with DSTE batteries, we have a good few, and you cant tell the difference between those and the Pentax originals.......

I use Maxsimas in the K-3II and K-5. We also use generic 109s in the X-90 bridge with no problems.

Having just bought a KS2 I am also looking for a spare battery. There is something odd about the DSTE brand. Amazon sell them as 1400 mA.hr capacity, for £8.49. They seem well liked, with 15 buyers giving an average of 4 1/2 stars. The eBay seller spec has them as 2100 mA.hr (which is also on the illustration on the Amazon site!). In both cases they are made in China.
Maxsimafoto sell well on Amazon at £10.15. They claim to have 1154 mA.hr capacity (a curiously precise figure!) but several buyers have found the capacity to reduce badly within months.

It's something that everyone will never agree on, but my logic is that having spent a large amount on a camera I'm not going to fail at the last hurdle with a battery of unknown quality. Therefore, I buy Pentax batteries. Two batteries should cover more than adequately. I actually rotate three, but only because an extra came my way at a very low price.

I've been using a single spare £15 DSTE 2000 Ma battery now across four cameras KX, KR, K5 and now K3. That's around 15,000 exposures a battery i guess. If someone could tell us who makes the ones badged Pentax (they surely don't make them) then perhaps I'd buy that. Do beware of low output ones though.

I see no sense in buying a Pentax (way overpriced) battery. I do stick to a reputable name rather than a Chinese no name. My spare is a Hama. It has performed as well as the Pentax original. After six years it is still going strong whereas the Pentax original no longer holds a charge.

All these batteries are now quite old designs containing two 18500 size cells. Most new development has been done on 15mm longer cells which would give much longer life and be safer due to inbuilt protection. Can the camera makers find a way of fitting the bigger cells.

Hopefully supply will continue for a few more years. Unusual though in this digital age.
