Lightroom 2, very good

Just upgraded to Lightroom 2, I don't think I will be needing C1 or SPX3 again.

The addition of editable Camera Profiles (like C1) and local colour adjustments puts it streets ahead of the competion IMO, the colour with Camera Raw 4.5 in conjuction with the Adobe Standard Beta 1 camera profile is pretty darn good, it even has a tool for skin smoothing also appears a bit quicker in operation.

Here's one PEF file developed entirly in LR2, the first one is "as shot", the second one is a virtual copy but developed using some of the local adjustment tools with medium sharpening applied on export to JPG.

Anybody else purchased the upgrade ?
Cheers
Brian.

Can't afford it yet I've got the unlimited Beta though which will be fine for a month or two more.

The upgrade is little more than 50 if you buy from the US store. 80+ from UK.

Hi All,

I have unfortunately upgraded to LR2. It was ok yesterday - I managed to import one folder, and now the whole thing just siezes up. I cannot import nor can I change to a different module. Have tried all the usual things but nothing helps

Am awaiting a reply from Adobe.

I hate Adobe's Pricing. 50 in the USA, 80 in the UK. You can't buy on the US store if you have registered an European product key for the original product.

It is also quite stupid that the download is more expensive than the boxed version. I guess they want to shift all the boxes for which they already paid to be printed and all the contents produced.

On my monitor there appears to be something a little strange about the skin texture. Her lower arm and the skin across her chest look a bit like she has goose bumps...

It's a lot more obvious in the first one than the second - is it a processing artefact of some kind?

Hi Chris

The goose bumps are real, Charlie was being blasted by a 24" dia fan at the time I've use the LR2 Skin Smoother tool in the second image to try and show what can be done in LR2 without the need to load the PSD into Photoshop.
Cheers
Brian.

Looks to have done a great job Brian. Worth the investment you think

That's a very subjective question, only the individual user can answer that, it's not cheap, I would recommend a play with the Beta version before the 30th August.

For me, yes I think it's worth it, I'm not suggesting that it is the best converter (think Matt will still recommend SPX for high ISO work) but the workflow (and now the local adjustment tools and camera profiles) suit me better than any other converter that I have worked with.

I finally found the answer to my problems with LR2 - a lovely man called Brad from Adobe uk.
I had tried everything to get LR working but to no avail -
removed programme, del every file to do with LR2 catalogue, rebooted etc and re downloaded - nothing worked.

Many of you may know this, but for those of you who do not, Lighttroom was not the problem it was the windows system. Even though I regularly clean up files etc there is still a lot of accumulated junk on you PC.

The solution was to open a new user account on Windows (XPPRO in mycase)and run PS and LR from the new uncluttered account.

Now everything runs faster No problems at all with lightroom 2 at the moment. I have opened one image and run it through all the modules fiddling ( or more technically - making image adjustments) ad hoc trying all the features I can find and still I cannot get the system to crash or go slow ( but am still trying )

My original user account I wll use for verything else and only use the new one for editing.

Sandri

Ps I like Lightroom2 some new stuff very good
