Ha Ha I do miss those, they really taught/re taught me a thing or two about seeing/visualising a shot, rather than just glimmly zooming from the one spot as I used tosimonkit wrote:

They are lovely but I've kind of set my heart on the Sigma 8-16/50-500 and just maybe the new 18-35, it's really the Pentax angle of things 12-24 could replace the siggy 8-16, I just don't like the 16-50 SDM but can't really put my finger on why? If they put the 17-70 SDM in a weather sealed 16-50 type body for the handling I'd bite! The other favourite is the 50-135 SDM, so for everyday/lightweight I'd just take the 17-70+50-135, add the wide if required. For an Airshow/ critters etc. The 50-500 goes in place of the 50-135...
Of course without approval of the other half it's all just pie in the sky

Must admit Jules that if FF wasn't in my mind I certainly wouldn't look elsewhere, I don't think there's much out there by anyone that has the allround abilities of the K5. K5, just works, looks at the shot, shrugs it's shoulders and just gets on with it, I like that. I also like the fact that as long as I owned one I always had a little smirk to myself when I took it out of the bag, the little camera that could...

Now that's what I'm talking about Matt, I'd love to see me do that with the D600/24-120 AFSG VR/28 F1.8 AFSG/50 F1.8 AFSG/Sigma 12-24 HSMII and the 70-300 AFSG VR My general walkabout kit is K5IIs + DA*16-50. Surprisingly compact for such quality!

It's not always just the weight but the volume, which requires a bigger bag etc. and it just spirals...

My walk around kit has simplified right down to just the Tamron 17-50 these days, sometimes with the 55-300 wrapped in a soft pouch and carried in a pocket - so no bag at all.
Or if I'm going up something too steep for that just the 40Xs on a K01 instead.

Mine's very similar, either the FA24-90 or DA17-70, plus sometimes the 55-300 on my belt. I particularly like the sharpness and colour of the 24-90 with my K5 so that tends to be my walkabout lens of choice unless I'm expecting to need the wider angle of the 17-70.
K5IIs, K10D & ME Super with FA24-90, DA16-85, DA55-300, misc old primes; Olympus EM10 & Panasonic LX15.
