Why not buy a brand new Sigma AF 50-200mm F/4-5.6 DC OS HSM from SRS Microsytems via their eBay outlet? It only costs £99.00 delivered, and you then register it on the Sigma (UK) website for a free 3 year warranty, so you at least have a super lens and peace of mind should it need repair as sigma (UK) will charge around £100.00 for a single repair (ouch)!
I have one of these lenses bought from SRS via their outlet store, and it's a cracking bit of kit (honestly, clear, nice colour rendition and tack sharp). I also have a pretty rare Tamron SP AF 17-35mm Di LD (IF) Aspherical lens listed in the PU classifieds. I find a 'one lens does all' solution to be a less than a satisfactory solution, but if your budget won't stretch to buy a better quality optic, then they do have their uses, but I find you'll get average grade results instead of excellent or exceptional. Happy hunting though.
