Lens Fine Tune Adjustment

I found I needed +5 adjustment on the DA-15 but it was no worse than some of the other lenses, it depends on the flange thickness of the mount on camera and each individual lens as they're all made to a tolerence. As an example I have these settings on the K20D:
SMCP DA 15mm +5
Sigma AF 24mm -8
SMCP FA 28mm +5
SMCP FA 35mm -3
SMCP FA 50mm -4
SMCP DA 70mm -8
Tamron Di 90mm +/-0
SMCP DA*16-50mm -6

Flang thickness is probably almost the same but it does at up when you consider the little play there is with the sensor, AF module, mirror, viewfinder and every micro meter is one to many.

Interesting, this is maybe the reason I have never obtained, what I would call, pin sharp focus with digital, the way I did with my spotmatic II, and film.
I have a K10D, can the focus be fine tuned with this camera ?.

With the K10D you can do a global adjustment through the "debug menu" but not an adjustment per lens, only the K20D, K7, k5 and the 645D can do that.
I believe you can sent the camera to Pentax with the lenses to have them calibrated though but that will cost you...

I used long end because that's the most DOF critical most of the time.So, for those of you who have calibrated zoom lenses, how?

You could do an average off course but i'm actually curious if there will be a difference.

I found a slight difference with my 50-135 IIRC. can't remember exactly how much.
I'm going to re-test ( and if necessary recalibrate ) them all again soon. Should be interesting to see if things drift. I haven't noticed any OOFness though

I used to leave mine in debug mode so I could change the setting when I attached a lens that required a big adjustment.

Many thanks to Anva and Smeggy, for your input.
I have had a look on my K10, and I don’t have a debug option, but I think my firmware is the original, so maybe the debug was added in a later version.
Its not that much of a problem, its just that the focus does not have that, what I would call punch.
My wife uses a “Canon Power Shot A640”, only ever on set to auto everything, but the focus is spot on, also the annoying thing is,she is a far better photographer than me. She has that photographic eye, for composition.
Her dad was a very good artist, need I say more.

No. The debug mode is accessed courtesy of a piece of non-Pentax software you download onto, and run from, an SD card. I have had a look on my K10, and I don’t have a debug option, but I think my firmware is the original, so maybe the debug was added in a later version.
I seem to remember Smeggy referring to it (amongst others) in another post.
