lens compatability with full frame

We should be pleased that Pentax have maintained as much backwards compatibility as they have. We can still use, without any disadvantage in use, lenses from the last forty years or so. We can use manually lenses going back almost sixty years. That's pretty good in my book.

I can as no one can make a 16-85mm that is FF compatible. It's just not physically possible. Besides: the 16-85mm is a very good crop sensor lens that is worth its purchase price on that merit. As it stands it is targeted at all the current Pentax DSLR users as they all shoot crop.

Aye that's fine but I wouldn't be spending almost 2k to use some old manual lens...
I can use all of them on the cameras I have.
Be honest John if you were dedicated to say JVC and for years you'd been waiting for super plater cd playing...and they'd released some super add on that gave you better do understand on your non plater system would you not be a little if fed if 2 or 3 months later (after 3 or 4 years of specilation) they released it but you new add on was now in the same class as the old 45's....
Be honest...

I think that sort of didn't make sense Bruce...you were meaning to say?

I haven't exactly been waiting for a FF camera, and it's easy to see why when it's possible to print staggeringly good A3 prints from the APS-C ones we use. But if the new camera looks appealing then I might still buy it.

I'm not sure I'm getting what you obviously feel very aggrieved about.

I'm starting to think that it's less likely that I will buy the FF ok it will have the option to use lenses in cropped mode but in that case the K3 is more than good enough so justifying the purchase becomes harder.
While there is a certain appeal to using old glass buying a 2000 euro camera with all the bells and whistles to do so also seems crazy given you can use them on K3.
Really looking like it will be out of my reach and in all honesty probably an unnecessary step at thus stage.
I'm always getting jibes from my Nikon mate about real (full frame) cameras but I'll live with that until an offer appears or the prices drop.
Cheers,

Bruce

I'm in a position to upgrade or supplement my K50 which I bought to learn about DSLR, but have held off until the FF gives me another option. For the same reason not bought any lenses recently; I have a couple of FF compatible lenses - 100mm macro and a Sigma 150-500 - and an old 28-80 from my 35mm camera. What I would really want from FF is better low light tolerance. The most popular models used in Outdoor Photography magazine are the Canon 5DIII and Nikon D810 so it would be great if the Pentax offers a realistic third option at that level, but I'm also aware that the lenses will need to be of the highest quality to get the benefits which means at least one new lens as well to start with.

well, you can always jibe back your Nikon mate about real (medium format 645D and Z) cameras.....let's see what would be her/his reply to that

myself - i am more than happy with crop dSLR, just trying to upgrade my already great k5 with k5IIs ....and I will be provided for years. Anyway I wish Pentax a success with K1 that will eventually lead to another fullframe model in a future and boost company's reputation among others as well - I think the company deserves it for providing us with great cameras so far....

I am more than happy with it, John....actually 2 of my 5 essential lens kit are antique K20/4 and K85/1.8.....and then there are 2 FA Limiteds.....anytime I can slap any of those (except DA*55) on MX or MEsuper and have a go with a film....which is great. So backwards compatibility of Pentax is great...
