Lens Comparison - Advice needed

Hello Everybody

RIght, here is a difficult one. I have been considering some of my lenses, and I don't want to bias your comments by saying what I have shot with in this series. I kindly ask you don't look at the exif, in order not to compromise your judgment.

Below are test shots taken with 2 lenses, at f2.8 , f4, f5.6, f8, f11, f16, f22. All photos feature lens 1 on the left, and lens 2 on the right. THese are the other details.

SR off / on tripod
ISO 100
ALl photos are shot in Jpeg, and straight off camera without any processing (in order not to compromise anything with photoshop or ACR raw)

What I would like from you, is a thorough examination of the photographs, and your thoughs regarding the differences of the two in each one of the apertures.

(I can't get the files to upload on photobucket without compression.THey are jpegs saved for web, 20mb each, but once uploaded, this is the result...)

You're not going to get any proper comparisons done with images at this size unfortunately, so I think you'll have to investigate ways of getting full res images uploaded.

All I can say is that lens 2 appears to expose slightly brighter than lens 1.

Doesn't look as though Clikpic will let you. I use my own webspace, so I've never had to look for another way.

I'm sure someone will be along in a moment with an idea. In the meantime I'll have a think...

Im on cable!!! virgin media with supposedly 20mb.... no comment...

its uploading 1 mb in 20 seconds... total of 130 mb!!

I think the lens on the left just has the edge but there isn't much in it.
At 2.8 it appears to have sligtly more contrast and is possibly a smidge sharper looking at the glass vase, though that may be due to the better contrast.
At the other apertures I can't honestly separate them but at f22 I think the right hand lens just has the edge , however slight. ( and possibly at f16, but I can't make my mind up on that one!)
I doubt this helps much, but that's my opinion for what it's worth.

P.S. the left hand one looks a tad underexposed too but by less than a third of a stop by the looks of things. A bit like my K20.....

Just downloaded the f/2.8 shot. I was going to say No. 2 looks nicest from this to me, No. 1 suffers from longitudinal chromatic aberation (see the green edge to the out of focus rooftop), and doesn't appear to be as sharp across the frame, although this may be because the focus was slightly further back than that for No. 2.

Then again, the bokeh looks nicer with lens 1, see the foliage and highlights between the window frame and house on the left hand side. No. 2 has got nasty edges to the out of focus areas, No. 1 seems much smoother.

No. 1 reminds me of the FA50mm 1.4, nice bokeh but CA present. I would guess it's an older lens at least.

It's late and I haven't had time to download the rest. Just going to have a look at f/22, then I might see f/5.6 tomorrow.

What am I doing pixel-peeping anyway?

At f/22 lens No. 1 has better control of purple fringing, but doesn't look quite as sharp as No. 2.

To be honest, these are huge files to ask people to download, something more compact would really be appreciated.

But then John, you won't see the small differences that are there. But then, perhaps that's the point...

Anyway, just had a look at the f/5.6 one, and No. 1 still looks nicer to me. Still suffers from green OOF background edges, but bokeh still better in my opinion, and perhaps a touch sharper?

So if it was my money, and I had to choose between the two, I might choose lens No.1.

But who knows...
