Leaping from K110-D to K-30 Need Help.

It has been years since I've been on the forum, though I check the gallery almost daily. Of course, I'm in awe every time.

I have a K110-D which I love, and am trying to talk daughter number two into Pentax DSLR equipment.

I think my best lures are my two best lenses and flash which I will gladly pass along to her - if they work with the K-30 body.

The flash is an AF280T tilt head.

The lenses are an SMC Pentax - F 1:3.5 - 4.5 35mm - 135mm

and my precious SMC FA 1:1.8 31mm AL Limited.

I'm hoping Pentax's forward/backward compatibility will help me out here, but I must admit I've lost touch with the industry over the past years.

Can anyone help and earn my deep appreciation?

Thanks from Montreal

The lenses certainly will work. The 31 is still one of the most sort-after lenses. Your daughter is a very lucky lady!

The flash I'm not so sure about. I believe it would work in manual mode, if it has one, but not TTL. Pentax has moved to P-TTL, and a P-TTL flash would be required now for automation.

Thank you so much elfer!

The lenses were my biggest concern, and a P-TTL flash will make a great birthday present next year.

Appreciate the encouraging reply!

I've just been reading up on the AF280T. It might work better than I thought. Comments elsewhere suggest it will still work in Auto mode, just not full TTL. Don't write it off yet!

Mac, The Af280T is a very good flash, I still use mine on the K5. you have the choice of the two Auto modes and Manual.

make sure you grab a WR lens to go with that k-30 mac... you'll want complete weather sealing if you're out in the kayaks!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Long time no see, welcome back Mac.

As far as I recall everything you have will work on the latest bodies.

Just make sure she gets the 18-55WR with the K30, that way wet weather won't worry her.

Hi to all!

Especially those with such long memories! (Don and HG)

I think I was using my flash in Auto mode even on my K110-D Steve and elfer, so no loss there!

Man, ya gotta love Pentax!

I notice our McBrian is back? Thought he went darkside?

Thanks again everyone, and I'll let you know how it goes.
