LCD Viewfinder k100d

Hi everyone, my name is Leon .. i am a new member to this club

I have one question, is it possible to use the LCD on the K100D as a viewfinder? i know on my old Olympus i can do this but i can not work out how on my Pentax and thinking that it is not possible?

I prefer a normal viewfinder anyway for several reasons that i am sure you all know... but there was times on my Olympus where being able to use the LCD as a viewfinder was very helpful, like when doing a low level shot and not being able to place your eye against the camera.... although the preview shot on the k100d is a work around for this i would prefer to use the LCD

Is there an option somewhere i am missing?

What was your old camera? SLRs can't do a live preview unless they have a special mechanism for this installed. Only the Olympus E300, 400, 500, 410 and 510 could do this untill recently. Now the Canon 40D and the Nikon D200 can as well.

I don't really find it useful and much prefer the traditional pentaprism or pentamirror.

Ahh ok thanks for the information, my old olympus is not an SLR, back then when i got my Olympus good DSLR's was about £1000 upto £2000 to buy so i had to settle for the C2020-Z which was nearly £600 back then...

i also prefer the optical viewfinder, but the LCD screen was helpful on some occasions .. but i can live without

Really? The flip-out, rotating screens with live preview are extremely useful - especially when framing shots at awkward angles or over crowds.

It is certainly on my list of nice-to-haves for my future upgrade.

I am finding a problem the other way round! I cannot get on with viewing a screen as opposed to using a finder and wanted a small P&S. It is almost impossible to find one these days with an optical finder.

I'm suggesting Pentax might like to look the possibility for the K10D's successor.

It sure would be handy on occasions but it would put a few quid on the price i would imagine

I far prefer some sort of finder attachment like the Refconvertor. That way it doesn't add to the price and complexity for those who don't want it.

No sorry Clarky I haven't and to be honest I'm unlikely to as I wouldn't use it often enough to justify the cost. It does look a useful piece of kit though if you're into the sort of photography that makes looking into the viewfinder difficult.
