Kx Can not turn on

I have a new K-x (12/23/09) that I have only been able to use a couple of times.

I went to change the batteries and I have not been able to turn it back on. I have tried several packs and different brands of new batteries.

Am I missing a trick to get this to work?

Thanks!!!

You would probably be better using rechargeable NiMH batteries, or Lithium cells. If you have been trying Alkaline batteries, they may not be suitable.
Best regards, John

Did you at any time insert one or more batteries incorrectly?

If no, use rechargeables as John mentions. Sanyo Eneloop batteries (or similar) are best as they have a very low self discharge rate.

If you are needing to change your batteries now - I wonder if there is actually something wrong with your camera ?

I have still the original Batteries that were supplied with my K-x at the beginning of December . I've taken approximately 600 pictures and the battery indicator still shows green.

Why did you decide to change the batteries ?

When I first got my K10D I took more than 600 pictures in the first couple of days I think.

Pentax are a little ambiguous about alkalines. They say toward the beginning of the manual that they are suitable, then later they say that you may get reduced functionality with them. I'd be very surprised is they stopped the camera switching on at all though.

Putting a battery in the wrong way round may toast the battery and the camera would not work, but it is unlikely to damage the camera.

Sorry if this is a silly question but are you putting the batteries in the right way round? Might be worth checking.

Something else to check. On my K20 with the switch off and the battery in, when I insert an SD card, the card read light flickers a couple of times. Could another Kx owner confirm that they do this too. If so that would be another thing to check.

Thanks Techno. If it's the same as the K20, the light (orange on mine) is on when the card is being written to or read from.

Have to admit I've never really noticed that at any time other than putting the Memory card in - when it's up at my eye I don't notice the red flash

I'd associated it with the card and kept forgetting to check the Manual . If I can forget to switch my Metz flash on I can certainly be guaranteed to forget to check something in the manual

Mike-P,

Was that one photo each to check how each lens would work?

The K-X is very picky with his batteries and the latest updated solved this problem a bit. link Read the instruction and download the file, with the downloaded file you find instructions how to install it, it's quite easy to follow the instruction so don't be afraid.

Here's your morning wake-up call. You can't update the firmware when you can't turn the camera on.

I know but it's good to know if he does get it to work how to solve the problem even further. Sorry for being optimistic

K-x like the K-M has the little red light flicker on when you insert the sd card, wether the camera is on or not it still reads.

as for not switching on, make sure you use fully charged good batteries, i have had the same on the both cameras with 1 set of batteries i have, i can fully charge them take them straight off the charger use them and the camera wont turn on. i've converted to eneloops now, last ages and hold there charge when not in use, for just over £6 on amazon or under a tenner at asda you cant go wrong.
the energizer lithium you get with the camera are brilliant, lasted me for over 1500 photos, i keep 2 sets of them in my bag now as a backup.

The OP is keeping very quiet about it. Doesn't seem to have been back since presenting the problem.
