Difference in display quality

I recently have observed that there is a significant difference in the brightness and or contrast of images that I upload to the gallery and viewing the same images on my home monitor. They appear to be darker by as much as a full f: stop and lose some of the detail that is important. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this and if they do anything to compensate.

Is it possible that you are exporting your image in something other than sRGB? Adobe RGB for instance. That might produce a similar effect.

I checked the last posting and the EXIF shows that it is sRGB. So I am still puzzled.

what are you comparing with? Have you tried uploading to imageshack / photbucker / flickr / etc and then doing a comparision with the gallery on here...
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...

When you upload, do you do the resizing beforehand, or do you allow the site to resize for you?

I have uploaded to some forums on Yahoo but haven't noticed anything unusual. I usually resize and then save "for web" before uploading in order to make the files transmit quickly.
